July normally means your second payment on account to HM Revenue and Customs if you are self-employed.

It also means it’s a time when the Revenue will chase outstanding tax.

Your payment will be due 31st July; plus if you run a limited company and your year end is 30th September, your Corporation tax is due too.

Employers are also due to pay any Class 1A NIC’s by July 19th.

If you can’t pay what can you do. Well, the first step is to contact HMRC’s business payment support line on 0845 302 1435. You will find they are much more receptive if you contact them before your tax becomes overdue and it’s always better for them to know why you haven’t paid. It might also prevent that knock on the door!

You can always give us a call if you need any further advice when attempting to arrange a payment plan with HMRC.
